On November 25-26, the Swedish Defence Research Agency is holding a workshop in Umeå, Sweden, open for participation to NATO and Partner nations. The Workshop is concentrating on scenario building addressing all phases of the conflict cycle of prediction, prevention, conflict management and post-conflict recovery.
The scenarios will be framed by a few presentations to facilitate fruitful discussions. The geographical setting for the scenarios will be Sub-Saharan Africa, bearing the Whole-of-Government/ Comprehensive Approach (CA) in mind.
Environmental Security (i.e. the relationships between environment, security and development issues) is a field which has gained a growing interest during the last years from bodies such as NATO, EU, UN, OSCE and many others. Conflict prevention, as well as the transformation from armed conflict towards sustainable development, implies a range of challenges for e.g. the military sector. In many places of the world today the environment is under heavy pressure, affecting the security of man and the community of life, a situation further aggravated by the effects of climate change.
