PROLOGUE
Jan was born in 1956 in Karlstad, Värmland, Sweden. As a youngster, Jan was very competitive in sports like shot-put and in local knowledge competitions.
This trait is also visible in his education ~ Jan achieved both a Bachelor of Economics and a Master of Civil Engineering by the age of 21 !
After a career in ABB where Jan held positions in Malaysia, Sweden and Saudi Arabia, he joined Ericsson in 1994. Jan soon took the position as President of Ericsson Lebanon, where he met his wife Najla. Together they moved to South Africa in 2001, and it is there that they had their life with the blessing of two lovely daughters.
Under Jan’s leadership, as Head of Market Unit sub-Saharan Africa, the market unit has grown its market share, its customer base, its customer offerings as well as its staff compliment.
It is much Jan’s never-ceasing involvement and dedication that has positioned the market unit as the top performing unit in Ericsson.
As a person, Jan was a thinker and private, yet very warm and caring person ~ always making time to listen and help out whichever way he could.
He always defended the weak and the disadvantaged and tried to find the Good in everyone. He was very professional in his work, result-oriented and focused on achieving the targets.
Jan is acknowledged and liked for his humble and kind approach to people. Hence, much gratitude, appreciation and praise is to be found from every corner of the sub-Saharan Africa, Sweden, Lebanon and other parts of the world.
As a husband and father, Jan’s love was ever present. He dreaded the business trips that made him a bit nervous around us, and he couldn’t wait to get back home.
He liked to be around (mostly in the background) doing his work, reading, speaking to colleagues and friends on the phone, thinking non-stop and always planning ahead. And of course, spending the little precious time with his family was their greatest pleasure and reward.
Jan will be sorely missed by his wife Najla, his daughters Kim, Marie, Linn and Janna.
God bless Jan and everything he touched.
Hamba Kahle
Yours Sincerely,
Göran Söderholm
